My family and I finally made it to the apple orchard this past weekend.
Being a suburban girl, I absolutely love getting out to the country. Especially when the leaves are bight orange and vibrant yellow, the air is crisp and the weather is slightly cloudy. There is just something cozy in some way about an overcast sky.
It was fun picking apples, watching my kids playing around with the barn animals, and eating all the great treats the orchard had to offer.
Oh yeah, I ate a lot!! Let’s start with the apple cider donuts. It is impossible to find better apple cider donuts than the ones you get at an apple orchard.
I mean, they brew their own apple cider at their own mill right on the premises! Oh, and their apple cider itself is to die for.
I also scarfed down their homemade chicken pot pie and brought home some cream cheese frosted apple slices which I duplicated last year here. (I think mine did a good job of mimicking theirs actually! 😉 )
So with all those apples we brought home I, of course, had to make something with them. But surprisingly, the first thing I made was NOT a dessert. Instead, I made these Apple and Sage Pork Chops. and I have to tell you; they turned out amazing!!
Sweet apples sauteed in an apple cider and sage sauce are the perfect compliment to the delicious bone-in pork chops.
And honestly, this dish couldn’t be easier to make. It looks like a Sunday dinner but it really is perfect to make for the busy weeknights. The sauce comes together quickly and I made the whole dish in one skillet. (And I used stove top stuffing to finish it off 😉 )
Seriously, in about 30-45 minutes your dinner will be on the table. Even my kids were a bit surprised I think because this didn’t look like a ‘Tuesday night dinner’.
And what could be better in the fall than apples, sage and pork chops for dinner?!? I’ll tell you: Not much!! 😉
And now for another giveaway!!
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Sage, Rubbed
- 1 teaspoon Garlic, Minced
- 1 teaspoon minced onion
- 1 teaspoon Thyme Leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon Allspice, Ground
- 1/2 teaspoon Paprika
- 4 bone in pork chops, 1-inch thick (about 1 1/4 pounds)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 red apples, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup apple cider
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
Instructions
- Mix the flour, salt and seasonings together in a small bowl. Sprinkle both sides of the pork chops with half of the seasoned flour.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet on medium-high heat. Add the pork chops; brown on both sides. Remove the pork chops from the skillet. Add the apples and cook and stir for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the cider, sugar and remaining seasoned flour until well mixed. Return pork chops to skillet. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low; cover and simmer 5 minutes or until desired doneness.
- Serve with stuffing if desired.
Yum! Apple and pork go together so well, don’t they. Nice addition of the sage too 🙂

Thanks you Amber! The apple/sage combo worked really well here! 🙂
I still have a few apples out on the trees in our orchard. This sounds like a nice way to use some of them.
